Chattanooga Neighborhood Field Guide: North Chattanooga

North Chattanooga, often times called Northshore by locals, is one of the most popular parts of Chattanooga for residents and tourists alike, and for good reason.

Tree-filled streets with historic homes sit nestled in the rolling hills just on the north side of the Tennessee River across from downtown.

Here is what you need to know about all the little neighborhoods and great things North Chattanooga has to offer.

Riverview

The Riverview area is less known to tourists but has grown as a destination for both residents and visitors. The official Riverview neighborhood is filled with some of Chattanooga’s dreamiest historic homes with gorgeous, river-facing lots and in close vicinity to the Chattanooga Golf & Country Club.

Located near Hixson Pike where Riverview intersects the Normal Park neighborhood of North Chattanooga, you will find a cluster of locally owned boutiques and some of Chattanooga’s best restaurants.

On Hanover Street, be sure to check out Rosecomb Bar for late night cocktails and a beautiful garden, as well as Book & Cover for the cutest locally owned book store you will find.

At the intersection of Hixson Pike and Tremont Street, you will find all the good food you could ask for. Tremont Tavern is known for its legendary hamburgers and large draft beer selection, just be ready to wait for a table. You’ll often see residents walking down to the The Daily Ration on the weekends for an incredible brunch and breakfast menu with a huge family friendly patio.

Frazier Avenue

Also walking distance from the residential area is the popular Frazier Ave. area, which includes Chattanooga’s famous Coolidge Park and the north entrance to the Walnut Street Walking Bridge.

Frazier Avenue with its river and mountain views and its bustling stores draws tourists while also making everyone feel like a local who just stumbled upon a hidden gem.

Basecamp Bar is a great spot for the family to hang out on the patio for lunch or dinner. Frazier Five & Dime is the newest addition to the street and serves up craft cocktails and elevated American fare. In between these two spots, you will find a wide range of little shops and boutiques that sell everything from clothes to vinyl records to locally sourced gifts.
